Newcastle United are interested in signing Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jorgensen, but the Dutch side want more than £20million for their striker, according to Chronicle Live.
Jorgensen has proved his reputation as a lethal striker, scoring 31 goals in the past two seasons for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
The 27-year-old is currently leading the line for Denmark at the World Cup, but Rafa Benitez is working to bring the forward to St James’ Park this summer.
According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle enquired about Jorgensen in January but didn’t want to meet Feyenoord’s £20million valuation, but now it appears Newcastle are back in for the striker who is valued at £12.6million on Transfermarkt.
Although Jorgensen did suffer a long goal drought this season, the 6ft2 striker has proved that he knows how to find the back of the net.
If he can reproduce the form he showed in 2016/17 when he scored 21 and assisted 11 goals in 31 league games, then £20million seems almost cheap.
Feyenoord will of course be hoping he shines at the World Cup so his price tag will jump, but if that’s not the case, Newcastle should definitely consider bringing him in, especially if they make similar money from the potential sale of Mitrovic.
Newcastle need a proven goal-scorer and if they have to break their club transfer record for one, then so be it.
