N’Soki not ready to be thrown into the deep end at Newcastle United

Newcastle United have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of defender Stanley N’Soki, according to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (August 2, 15:29).

What’s the word?

Rafael Benitez has strengthened the defence with the recent signing of Fabian Schar from Deportivo La Coruna.

However, there are still some gaps to be filled due to the injury suffered to Florian Lejeune.

On top of that, only Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark are the other recognised centre-backs available for selection.

With a long, gruelling season ahead, in which the Magpies will be trying to avoid relegation from the Premier League, Benitez could do with another body to line the back.

According to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (August 2, 15:29), the North-East outfit have opened dialogue with PSG regarding the possible signing of 19-year-old N’Soki.

Is this a good idea?

The report claims that Newcastle would have to part with just £7m for the teenager’s signature.

Given the likelihood that the Magpies do not have much cash to part with, then it could be an ideal scenario.

However, if Benitez wants N’Soki to act as cover in the first team, then he is taking a big risk.

The Frenchman has made just one senior appearance for PSG in a competitive match, therefore throwing him into the deep end in the Premier League would be dangerous.

There is no doubt that the defender, who can also play at left-back or as a holding midfielder, is a talent, but he needs more time to continue his development.
