Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has stated that Manchester United striker Robin van Persie intentionally elbowed Yohan Cabaye in his side’s 3-0 defeat to the Red Devils on Sunday.
The players looked to clash in the game at the Sports Direct Arena, with the Magpies boss accusing the Dutch forward of souring the game.
“He’s looked at Yohan and he’s elbowed him. I think that needs to be looked at, if I’m honest. There is a bit of history here with Van Persie and I don’t know whether he’s got caught up in that,” The Sun quote the Newcastle boss as saying.
“I actually thought Yohan wouldn’t have gone down if he hadn’t done something but I hadn’t seen it myself.
“But I’ve obviously seen the replay and it looks like he’s looked at him and put the elbow in,” he concluded.
The incident is set to be investigated by the FA, with Van Persie potentially facing a charge of violent conduct, which usually results in a ban of three games.
