Alan Pardew says he could struggle to keep his star players this summer as Europe’s big guns target the likes of Yohan Cabaye.
Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheick Tiote and Tim Krul are among the players to be linked with a move away from the club and Pardew is expecting plenty of interest in the close season.
Pardew says he will fight to keep his star men at St James’ Park but admits it will be difficult if a Champions League club come knocking and offer big money, just like Chelsea did with Demba Ba.
“We’re one of those clubs where we’re liable to lose one of our great players to a Champions League team through finance – and sometimes the will of the player,” Pardew revealed.
“You can’t keep a player who doesn’t want to stay. Having said that, it’s going to be very difficult for any club to get a player out of here unless it’s a serious or big bid.”
