Rafael Benitez’ Newcastle United were on fire in the EFL Cup last night as they secured a thumping 6-0 victory over Preston North End, sealing their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The result continued Newcastle’s fine run in all competitions, with Benitez’ side currently sitting top of the Championship after 14 games, and the cohesion within the squad has resulted in some memorable moments.

22 passes resulted in Perez’ first goal against Ipswich Town at the weekend, with the move starting from kick-off and involving all 11 Newcastle players on the field before finding the back of the net- a goal that Barcelona themselves would be proud of.
Perez’ strike came after just 60 seconds and the striker doubled his tally 17 minutes from time, before turning provider to Matt Ritchie for the third goal shortly after that sealed another victory for the Toon army.
The result saw Newcastle remain top of the pile in the second-tier of English football and they quickly followed that performance up with a spectacular 6-0 thrashing of Preston North End in the EFL Cup, where 50,000 fans witnessed a scintillating display.
Newcastle will now have their eyes cast on tonight’s quarter-final draw, which follows the clash between Manchester United and Manchester City, but Benitez’ men will be focusing on this weekend’s clash with the same opponent they tore apart last night- although the rematch will take place at Deepdale.
