Newcastle fans have been debating a summer swoop for Florian Thauvin, and the majority of Magpies would not bring the Frenchman back.

After the success of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, who failed miserably at Chelsea, every club in the Premier League is going to be hunting for this summer’s Mo Salah story.

If you’re looking for a player who “flopped” in England but has excelled since leaving, then look no further than Marseille’s Florian Thauvin.

The French winger signed for Newcastle in 2015 after impressing for Marseille, but returned to his former club on loan after just one season in England, and made the move back to France permanent last summer.

Over 73 league appearances for Marseille in the last two seasons, the 25 year-old has grabbed 37 goals, and also chipped in with 20 assists.

Rafael Benitez would kill for a player with 57 goal involvements in 73 games, but it doesn’t seem like Newcastle fans are feeling too forgiving, as nearly two thirds of fans said they would not swoop for the winger.

Thauvin, who has 25 goals from the wing in all competitions this season, played just 420 Premier League minutes on Tyneside, and didn’t seem cut out for the physicality of the Premier League.

Of course, the same thing was said about Salah when the “Chelsea reject” moved to Anfield last summer, but 63 per cent of Magpies do not want Thauvin back, and you can find the full poll results below…
