The Toon have struggled for goals this season as they struggle to remain in the Premier League, with Dwight Gayle scoring double as many as goals as any other Newcastle player since the start of the last campaign.

It will be an added frustration then that Alexsandar Mitrovic, who scored only once for Newcastle this season before he was loaned out to Fulham in January, has hit the ground running in the Championship.

He popped up with Fulham's second goal with a brilliant turn-and-shoot from outside the area against Wolves on Saturday evening, and has shown a physical presence in all five games he has featured in for the Cottagers so far.

The £7.2m-rated (transfermarkt.com) Serbian's loan expires at Fulham in the summer, and if he continues to impress, Newcastle gaffer Rafael Benitez will be anxious to recall him at the first opportunity.

In our poll yesterday, Magpies fans were similarly keen to get Mitrovic back on Tyneside when the season finishes, with 67% of them saying that he should come back in the summer.
