According to Turkish reports, Newcastle are planning to up their bid for Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues to £13million.

What's the story?

Newcastle were strongly linked with a move for Rodrigues back in February, and now Turkish outlet Milliyet claims the Tyneside club are ready to up their bid.

It was claimed that Galatasary turned down a £7million offer from Newcastle in January, but they aren’t the only interested party, and could face competition for his signature from Germany and Spain.

The speedy winger has bounced around throughout his career, spending time in Germany, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and Greece before landing at Galatasaray, where he has enjoyed the best form of his career.

Rodrigues' agent Ceylan Caliskan told Milliyet a decision will be made at the end of the season.

Should Newcastle pursue a deal?

Fans might fear that signing Rodrigues would mean a return to Chelsea for fan favourite Kenedy, but this is not the case. Rodrigues can play on either wing, and if Newcastle could wrap up both deals they could have a frightening duo on their wings next season.

Rodrigues has always possessed incredible pace, and until this season one could make a simplistic comparison to Middlesbrough’s Adama Traore - an exciting and direct wide man lacking in end product.

This label has evaporated this season though, as the 27 year-old has grabbed six goals and eight assists in 21 league starts in Turkey. Valued at £3.6million on Transfermarkt, Rodrigues has four goals and three assists in his last seven appearances, so it is no surprise that the Premier League links are cropping back up again.

If Newcastle can secure a deal for Rodrigues this summer, he is the type of player that will get fans off their seats at St. James’ Park.
