Striker open to Newcastle move

Darren Bent (Aston Villa)Aston Villa outcast Darren Bent is keen on a summer move to Newcastle, but only if Alan Pardew is the man in charge at St James’ Park, according to reports from The Telegraph.

The Magpies have been linked with the sharp-shooting forward over the course of the past few weeks, with his future at Villa Park uncertain.

However, the controversial appointment of Joe Kinnear as director of football on Tyneside has seen the club’s transfer plans called into question.

Bent is thought to be one of their top targets, and is extremely keen to move on in search of regular football.

Having played under Pardew at Charlton, the striker is thought to have made Newcastle his preferred destination, but he will seek assurances that his former boss will be in the hot-seat for the foreseeable future.

It has been speculated that former Southampton boss could be willing to walk out following Kinnear’s appointment, with his role in transfer dealings likely to be diluted.

Fulham are also keen on Bent, who is widely believed to be available for around £6million after falling out-of-favour with Villa chief Paul Lambert.

With the 2014 World Cup just around the corner, the prolific 29-year-old has not given up hope of featuring in Roy Hodgson’s squad, but knows that he needs to be playing regularly to make that a possibility.
