Newcastle United’s terrible start to the new Premier League campaign continued yesterday as Arsenal emerged victorious at St James’ Park. The result condemned the Magpies to their fourth defeat from only five games played so far and left them still seeking their first win of the new season. Newcastle are in the relegation zone already and must start putting points on the board sooner rather than later.
Whilst owner Mike Ashley remains public enemy number one amongst the Toon Army, some fans are beginning to point the finger at the manager, Rafa Benitez, too. For practically his entire reign so far, Benitez has been loved by the Newcastle fans. However, recent results, team selections and negative tactics have led to criticism from many quarters.
Whilst Newcastle were more aggressive against the Gunners than they have been in previous fixtures, the home side could only muster two shots on target in the entire match.
After the final whistle, plenty of Newcastle fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations with the manager…

I will probably get hung for saying this but, Rafa deserves some stick today for that second half performance. Proper Pardew esc HT team talk that was. Terrible tactics and subs yet again far to late. And being honest the starting 11 shocked me #NUFC

Honestly starting to wonder if Rafa is trying to get himself sacked. Deliberately benching our better players for the sake of politics is a worry. What a toxic mess this club is. #NUFC

As much as I love Rafa, if Pardew or Mclaren had left Rondon on the bench at 2-0 we’d not be hearing the end of it… #nufc

What is Rafa’s game? Is he trying to make a point to Ashley? Something isn’t right! #nufc
