According to The Mirror's live transfer blog on January 3 (2:22pm), Huddersfield Town are ready to make a third bid for Norwich City winger Alex Pritchard having already had two bids rebuffed for the 24-year-old.

The Canaries signed the former England U21 international in an £8.5m deal from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2016, and he has gone on to make a big impression at Carrow Road for the Championship outfit.

Those performances obviously haven't gone unnoticed by the Yorkshire club, and despite the fact the wide-man has been missing the majority of the season through injury, David Wagner is desperate to bring him to the John Smith's Stadium during the January transfer window in order to boost his side's Premier League survival hopes.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United lie two places and two points behind 11th-placed Town in the standings, but they are just two points above Stoke City in the last relegation spot.

Manager Rafa Benitez will be desperate to strengthen his squad this month despite a lack of progress with a proposed takeover, and with his team only scoring 20 goals in their 22 top flight matches, bringing Pritchard to St James' Park could prove to be a shrewd move.

Here are three reasons Newcastle must hijack Huddersfield's bid to sign Pritchard…

They need more attacking depth

With 20 goals in 22 Premier League matches this season – and with four of those coming from centre-backs Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark – it is clear to see that Newcastle need to add to their attacking options this month.

While they have options like Matt Ritchie, Jacob Murphy, Christian Atsu and Rolando Aarons out wide, none of the aforementioned quartet have made the impact that the Magpies have required this term, and adding a versatile winger like Pritchard to the squad could prove to be an inspired decision.

His qualities

According to WhoScored.com, Pritchard's strengths include his crossing, through ball, passing and his taking of set-pieces, and he has made 10 key passes in eight Championship appearances this term.

Having recovered from an ankle injury that kept him on the sidelines until the end of November, the 24-year-old has also successfully completed 11 of the 21 dribbles he has attempted.

Last season, he made 56 key passes in 30 Championship games for the Canaries, scoring six goals and providing a further seven assists, and he has 12 of the latter in 42 outings in all competitions for City.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez

According to The Mirror, Norwich City are looking to at least recoup the £8.5m they bought Pritchard for if they are to sell him this month, and that should put him well in Newcastle's price range.

While Rafa Benitez won't have a huge January budget, he should still have some money from the summer left over as well as whatever Mike Ashley is willing to give him, and if he could bring Pritchard to St James' Park for around £10m or less the Spaniard would likely be pleased.
