According to reports on Sky Sports, Everton winger Kevin Mirallas was sent away from training on Saturday in an incident that is likely to throw his Toffees future into doubt.

Sky Sports says that the Belgian and teammate Morgan Schneiderlin were banished from training by caretaker manager David Unsworth after Duncan Ferguson had questioned the effort of the duo, and the 30-year-old was then left out of the squad as the Merseyside outfit beat Watford 3-2 at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Even though he started Unsworth's first two matches in charge having been almost completely frozen out by Ronald Koeman previously after a summer move away fell through, this could prove to be the final nail in the coffin of the Belgium international's Everton career.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have endured a mixed start to their Premier League season and boss Rafa Benitez could look to boost his team's firepower during the January transfer window.

Here are three reasons the Magpies should sign out of favour Toffees star Mirallas in the New Year…

Having scored just 10 goals in their opening 11 Premier League matches of the season, Benitez may well look to add to his attacking options during the January transfer window.

With his first-choice front four – Joselu, Christian Atsu, Ayoze Perez and Matt Ritchie – netting just four times between them in the top flight this term, there seems to be little doubt that Newcastle need to add more of a goal threat to their frontline in the New Year.

Having netted 29 goals in 150 Premier League appearances for Everton, Mirallas has certainly shown that he can find the net at a decent rate at this level considering he has played out wide in the majority of those outings, and he could prove to be a very useful addition.

Versatility

Benitez could be looking to sign more than one attacking player in the New Year – especially if a proposed takeover goes through in time – in order to ensure his team stay away from the relegation zone, and he may well be attracted to Mirallas' versatility.

The Belgium international can play anywhere across the front four if required – even though he has usually played out wide for Everton he has said before that he prefers to play through the middle – and he could even answer their centre-forward problem with none of Joselu, Dwight Gayle or Aleksandar Mitrovic looking to be good long-term options for Benitez.

Price tag

Whether the Newcastle takeover is completed in time for January or not, the Magpies will still want to get good value for money for any potential signings in the New Year.

Considering Mirallas came close to leaving Everton in the summer and has now fallen out of favour, he could be sold for a cut-price fee and with his experience in the Premier League and the fact he is a Belgium international, the 30-year-old could prove to be a bargain buy.
