Newcastle United booked their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 4-1 win over Rochdale at St James' Park.

And it was a special occasion for Tom Allan as the 20-year-old made his competitive first-team debut for the Magpies.

The youngster was introduced in the 57th minute of the contest and came up trumps in the latter stages as he provided the assist for Joelinton to make it 4-0.

There was to be a late consolation for the visitors as they scored in the 86th minute, but the strike meant nothing in terms of the final result.

And Allan's display captured the attention of a lot of the Newcastle fans.

Some supporters, meanwhile, claimed that Allan should now be promoted to the first team on a full-time basis ahead of Christian Atsu.

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all 25 of these obscure Newcastle signings...

Atsu played the full 90 minutes against Rochdale but drew another blank, meaning that he is yet to score in 20 appearances for the Magpies this season.

What's more, the attacker has managed just eight goals and nine assists in 116 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions.

Another fan insisted that Allan had done enough to be considered for this weekend's Premier League clash against Chelsea.

The attacker, who has scored 11 times in 18 appearances for Newcastle's Under-23 side this season, was actually on the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday but was not called upon by head coach Steve Bruce.

Meanwhile, the Magpies could reportedly move for this central defender before the January transfer window closes for business.
