Tottenham transfer talk dismissed

Newcastle midfielder Yohan CabayeNewcastle manager Alan Pardew has denied any approach was made by Tottenham for Yohan Cabaye in the summer.

The 26-year-old French midfield ace recently claimed a bid had been made for him from Spurs during the summer transfer window following an impressive Premier League season with Newcastle and some good performances for France in Euro 2012.

But Pardew has made it clear that no bid was ever received for his in form midfielder.

Pardew told The Sun: “There was no offer from Spurs so Yohan didn’t get that opportunity.

“But, of course, the likes of Yohan and one or two other players are going to be courted by some of the top sides, that’s natural.”

The Toon boss also made a point that success is the only thing that will keep his top players at the club.

“The only way we can keep the likes of Yohan, Papiss Cisse, Cheick Tiote and Demba Ba is to bring success, that’s the only way and that’s what we are going to have to try to do,” he said.

“Hopefully together, we can achieve that and then re-evaluate our goals for next year.”

Cabaye is expected to start for Newcastle in their Europa League home group match against Bordeaux tonight.
