Transfer Funds available for Alan Pardew

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has been assured he will have money to strengthen his squad  in January after a difficult start to the season, the Telegraph reports.

He is now likely to renew his interest in targets he was unable to complete deals for in the summer, the most likely arrival being France right back Mathieu Debuchy.

The club also failed to land Dutch striker Luke De Jong and former St James Park hero Andy Carroll after refusing to pay the asking prices. Pardew will be keen to add a striker in case top scorer Demba Ba’s £7million release clause is triggered.

The Magpies, after exceeding all expectations last season to finish fifth in the Premier League currently sit 14th in the table after winning just four of their opening 15 league games.

“This spell certainly made me question a few things that we have done,” said Pardew.

“I think it gave us a shake that we needed to do a little bit more work in the summer on recruitment and I don’t think we’re going to fall short again. We’ll be stronger in February.”

They have suffered from injuries to key players such as Stephen Taylor, Yohan Cabaye, and Hatem Ben Arfa among others and haven’t had sufficient cover.

However With the league being so tight this season Newcastle are only nine points off fourth place, six if they come away from a tough trip to Craven Cottage tonight with three points.

Pardew will be aware that a good run of results can put them right back in European contention, something he hopes a few January additions may help him achieve.
