Turkish international Yokuslu would be terrific on Tyneside

Newcastle are reportedly eyeing up a summer swoop for sensational Trabzonspor midfield enforcer Okay Yokuslu.

What’s the story?

Rafael Benitez has been eyeing up plenty of midfielders as he looks to find a long-term partner for Jonjo Shelvey, and Turkish-Football claim the Magpies will battle Leicester City to sign Yokuslu.

Newcastle apparently sent scouts to watch the young midfielder in action in Trabzonspor’s recent clash with Osmanlispor on Monday night.

The report claims Yokuslu has an incredible release clause of just £6.6million, and that the Turkish club are open to selling him this summer.

Newcastle fans are loving the form of Mo Diame right now, but with the Senegalese midfielder nearing his 31st birthday it is perhaps no surprise that Benitez is eyeing up fresh targets in midfield.

Should the Magpies make a move?

If Yokuslu’s release clause is truly as low as reports in Turkey suggest, then the Magpies would be foolish not to take a gamble on the 24 year-old.

Yokuslu is extremely technically gifted, but also has the power and strength to dominate the Premier League. Across 26 league appearances this season, the 11-cap Turkish international averages 2.6 tackles, 2.3 interceptions and 2.9 clearances per game.

As well as his excellent defensive capabilities, Yokuslu is also known for his ability to drive his team forward, whether that be with his 1.8 successful dribbles per game or his impressive 3.7 successful long balls per game.

Fans may be dubious about a budget move for the wiry defensive midfielder, but his reading of the game and sheer power would be a welcome addition on Tyneside, and at such a low price he would be a low risk high reward signing for Benitez.
