As Football Fancast revealed earlier this evening, Newcastle United have signed Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey in a £12million transfer.
The 23-year-old joined the Welsh club’s ranks from Liverpool in summer 2013 and went on to register 77 appearances across all competitions, producing a Premier League return of nine goals in 69 outings in the process.
But the England international lost his place in the Swans’ starting line-up at the start of December and has now drawn his spell at the Liberty Stadium to a close. He was paraded in front of the St. James’ Park faithful ahead of the Magpies’ Premier League clash with Manchester United this evening.
Apart from his technical quality and long-range shooting, the former Charlton Athletic youngster is mainly known for one thing – his bald head and resulting likeness to creepy Harry Potter villain Lord Voldemort.
Being the rather cheeky bunch they are on social media, the Premier League’s Twitterites just couldn’t help themselves. Here are some of the funniest reactions to Shelvey’s Tyneside arrival:
Jonjo Shelvey says he hasn't been this excited about a transfer since he was called Tom Riddle.
