Newcastle are interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg playmaker Valon Berisha, according to the Chronicle.

What's the story?

Berisha has played for Red Bull Salzburg since 2012 and has impressed both as a central midfielder and left winger, and is currently valued at £6.75million on Transfermarkt.

This season, the Kosovo international made 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals for the Austrian club.

According to the Chronicle, the main hindrance to a Newcastle deal is that the 25-year-old is nearing a move to Sampdoria, so Newcastle will have to act quickly if they want him.

A great signing, if they can pull it off

Newcastle are lacking in creative flair in the middle of the park and Berisha would bring that in abundance.

He is adept at both scoring and assisting from midfield and would provide an excellent partner to Shelvey.

If Newcastle could pip Sampdoria to his signature, then he would be a great addition to the team, providing that magic touch that is often so hard to find in a player.
