According to a recent report from Le 10 Sport, Newcastle have entered the race to sign Villarreal's Karl Toko Ekambi.

The 27-year-old player has scored six goals and assisted three in the first 19 games played across all competitions for the Yellow Submarine in 2019/20 and looks to be a good choice up front.

The Magpies would, according to the same source, like to sign him in the ongoing transfer window but his club is demanding at least €25m (£21.4m) if they are to let him go.

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all 25 of these obscure Newcastle signings...

So far, as Le 10 Sport understand, nobody has matched the asking price but a move to the Premier League is still on the cards.

And looking at his profile, Ekambi certainly looks to be a player that could offer something to boost Newcastle in the final months of the season.

Some of his best performances arrived last season in the Europa League, when the 27-year-old managed to impress with his output for the La Liga outfit.

In just seven appearances, five of which were from the starting XI, Ekambi managed to bag three goals and four assists, very much leading the line for Villarreal.

But it seems that he is also a pretty good creator capable of playing well off the ground.

Apart from his ability in front of goal, his 1.3 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game also suggest that he can be used as a creative spark for Newcastle rather than a physical presence to aim long balls at.

The Magpies shouldn't expect much of an aerial presence, as Ekambi averaged 0.4 aerial duels won per game throughout the European competition.

Clearly, he's a striker with proven pedigree at an elite standard and Steve Bruce is certainly looking in the right place for a player who could ease the burden on Joelinton.

It will be intriguing to see how he fares if Newcastle do indeed manage to secure his signature this month.
