Newcastle United recently completed the signing of Valentino Lazaro on a temporary loan deal until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old midfielder only managed to make 11 appearances at Inter Milan and will be looking to re-establish himself in the final months of the Premier League season.
Who the heck is that?! Can you name all 25 of these obscure Newcastle signings…
Despite the fact he dropped down the pecking order in Italy, he seems to be a player of great potential and Newcastle might well have secured a quality acquisition to boost the club during the final months of the season.
But what exactly have the media had to say about the new recruit?
Let’s find out…
Bundesliga make sure to keep their fans updated on almost every player that sets foot in Germany.
Having spent some time at Hertha Berlin, it’s no surprise to see that the website have profiled the youngster and illuminated some of his key traits.
They dubbed him as the “The most talented Austrian since David Alaba” in the title of their article and go on to state the following:
“He’s the biggest Austrian talent to grace the Bundesliga since David Alaba, and boasts a name that you should find easy to remember. The modern attacking midfielder doesn’t just set up on the left, right or through the middle, he can do it all. And so it has proven with Lazaro, whose versatility paves the way for his talents to shine.
“Operating anywhere behind the striker, the young midfielder’s lightning feet both in speed of sprint and dribbling make him a must-watch player. He’s also shown on plenty of occasions that he can help out further back, notably as a right wing-back, while his set-piece delivery is second to none.”
Honigstein is a journalist who was keeping track of the young talent back when he was in Germany, and it’s safe to say that Lazaro impressd him with his talent.
He effectively echoed what Bundesliga.com stated before, stating that he is the most talented Austrian to emerge since Alaba.
Here’s what he said to BBC (quoted by Leicester Mercury):
“He’s one of the reasons Hertha Berlin are in the mix for the Europa League places this season. He’s widely seen as the most talented player to come from Austria since (Bayern Munich’s) David Alaba.
“He’s been an amazing signing already if you see his energy and adaptability to play in different positions. Some people have compared him to Willian in style – very direct but also skilful. This guy will go places. He looks like he can fit into many different shirts.”
It seems that Lazaro managed to impress all the staff at Hertha, including their sporting director Michael Preetz.
Back when he was still playing for the German outfit, the young player earned praise from the director who stated Lazaro has huge potential and could be at the club for a long time.
Of course, he ended up moving to Inter soon after but that doesn’t take anything away from his talent.
Here’s what Preetz said, as quoted by Leicester Mercury:
“From the moment he arrived, Valentino has shown why we brought him in. He has huge potential and he’s a good fit for our team, which is why we’re counting on him in the long term.”
Even though he fell out of favour at Inter Milan, Lazaro still looks like a player with a lot of potential to become a star for the future, and Newcastle should be delighted that they’ve managed to secure his services.
