According to the player’s agent, Newcastle are one of a number of Premier League teams keeping tabs on CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.
Golovin has impressed for CSKA this season and has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs.
The player’s agent, Alexander Manyakov, told Sports.ru that he “needs to leave” this summer, and that Newcastle are one of interested parties.
“He needs to leave,” Manyakov said. “As far as I know, there are specific offers from Premier League clubs but not from the top-six sides.
“I know that Southampton and Newcastle are showing an interest but not everything depends on Alexander, he has an active contract with CSKA.”
The 21 year-old midfielder has six goals and three assists in all competitions this season, and his agent claims the asking price is €20million (£17.6m).
Golovin is expected to star for Russia at the World Cup, so any deal for the midfielder would surely have to be before the tournament to avoid a price rise.
The young midfielder has already earned 17 caps for his country, impressing this season with his well-rounded set of abilities.
Valued at €10m (£8.8m) by Transfermarkt, the 21 year-old Golovin averages 1.9 successful dribbles per game, along with 1.5 key passes and 2.1 shots.
He also contributes on the defensive end, averaging 1.7 tackles per game and 1.2 interceptions across his 36 CSKA appearances this season.
Golovin is a superstar in the making, and fans should not overlook his potential simply because he currently plays in a lesser league.
€20m for a player with the potential to partner Jonjo Shelvey in midfield for years to come is a no-brainer, and the Magpies should be looking to get this one tied up early this summer.
