The Newcastle United fans have been on social media discussing whether Matt Ritchie should be offered a new contract by the club.
Ritchie will see his current deal at St James’ Park expire in June 2021.
According to The Sun, the fact that an extension has not been agreed has led to Stoke City monitoring the situation.
And it will certainly be interesting to see what happens with Ritchie this summer as all is not well.
The 29-year-old contributed two goals and eight assists in 36 Premier League appearances for Newcastle during the 2018-19 campaign, which is a good return.
And a number of the club’s fans have taken to social media to urge their side to sort out an extension with the Scotland international, who was used as a wing-back on a number of occasions in the second half of the season.
A selection of the Twitter reaction is available to view below:
This is an absolute no brainer – he’s such an asset, hugely hardworking & professional and often embodies the spirit of the Club on the pitch #NUFC

He epitomises the type of player we want to see in a Newcastle shirt. Forever giving it his all and plays for the badge on the shirt. If Lascelles, Dummett and Jonjo weren’t about – I’d consider giving this guy the armband

Would be mad to sell him. Sets the tempo, unreal work rate and outside the top 6 only Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson got more assists than Ritchie this season.
