Profiling Norwich’s young playmaker Emiliano Buendia

Football Fancast is embarking on a new series, in which we take a look at some of the hottest young prospects currently playing in the Championship…

Behind the unerring German efficiency of Daniel Farke’s juggernaut of a Norwich side this season, there is a diminutive Argentinian piecing it all together – Emiliano Buendia, or Emi, to the Carrow Road faithful who have grown fond of their £1.5m summer signing.

Buendia arrived in Norfolk from Getafe after the Canaries struck a deal to take Cultural Leonesa’s Player of the Season off their hands – the 22-year-old hitting six goals and eleven assists in 40 Segunda Division appearances last term whilst on loan at the club.

Since then, the 5′ 6″ playmaker has wasted no time in replicating those numbers in English football, leading the way in assists amongst his teammates with 12 in all, whilst he has hit the back of the net on four occasions as promotion looks a formality for the Norfolk-based challengers this season.

What is most impressive about Buendia is his ability to drift around in the attacking midfield areas and be equally as effective on the left, in the centre, or on the right behind the lone striker in Farke’s 4-2-3-1 system.

There is something almost David Silva-esque about the Championship’s fifth-highest assist maker this term. You wonder where he’s gone when the No.10 role is vacated, and you often find him getting on the end of a through-ball to finish with aplomb – much to the fans’ surprise as well as the opposition defence’s.

Amongst the likes of the more physical Teemu Pukki, Onel Hernandez and Marco Stiepermann, Buendia can be described as the glue that holds it all together for Farke in attack, helping to link the attack to the midfield duo of Moritz Leitner and Marco Vrancic so effectively.

The sky appears to be the limit for the eye-catching young South American, and the Premier League beckons for Buendia with or without Norwich.
