Liverpool and Manchester City defied expectations to partake in a scoreless draw at Anfield on Sunday, with neither team really willing to gamble enough to break the deadlock. The game didn't give too many talking points then, besides the surprising profligacy of both sides, but some players nonetheless performed better than others.

Fooball FanCast take a quick look at the two Liverpool stars who impressed us most at Anfield followed by the two who impressed the least, and then give readers the chance to deliver their own player ratings for the Sunday stalemate.

The Best

Jordan Henderson - 7/10: The Liverpool captain is often made the scapegoat when the Reds struggle to excite but Henderson was more proactive than any other midfielder in trying to take the game to City after James Milner's early withdrawal, always offering energy and purpose even if he did lack the necessary delicacy from time to time.

Dejan Lovren - 7.5/10: Another who always finds himself in the firing line after disappointing Liverpool performances. Nonetheless, Lovren played a key role in Liverpool's clean sheet by adding some meanness to the backline, weighing in with five tackles and four clearances while distributing with an 87% pass accuracy. It could have been a very different afternoon for the Croatian though, had Martin Aktinson blown his whistle early on for an awkward challenge on Sergio Aguero inside Liverpool's box.

The worst

Roberto Firmino - 5/10: He's usually an invaluable member of this Liverpool team but the Brazilian was taken off after 71 minutes against City and with good reason. In that time, Firmino failed to take an effort at goal or even win a header as he seemed to be bullied out of the game by City's centre-halves. He finished the match with just 21 touches of the ball to his name.

Sadio Mane - 5/10: The Senegalese forward just couldn't get a grip of the ball against City, suffering two dispossessions and four unsuccessful touches, and as a consequence struggled to produce anything going forward. With no efforts at goal or created chances to his name, Mane was marshalled well by Kyle Walker and the rest of the City defence.
