Player Ratings: Who was Man United’s biggest culprit versus Tottenham?

Jose Mourinho tried to put a positive spin on it, but it’s impossible to avoid the ramifications of Manchester United’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night. The club now feels like its moving into full-blown crisis mode, with the gaffer the likeliest casualty.

The performance itself wasn’t actually that bad, at least to begin with. Lining up in an unexpected 3-5-2 with Ander Herrera an unorthodox right centre-back, United took the game to Spurs in the opening stages in a frenetic first-half display.

But as the Red Devils only seemed to get more nervous as the game went on, Tottenham seemed to grow into it and the pressure eventually told when Harry Kane was followed up by Lucas Moura to make it 2-0 within a few minutes. The Brazilian then notched his second and Tottenham’s third with a sweeping late counter-attack.

And looking back on Monday night’s defeat, several United players will feel they could have done better. Phil Jones endured a difficult evening and failed to stop Kane at a corner for the first goal, while Herrera struggled in defence and Romelu Lukaku – who Transfermarkt value at £90million – missed an early sitter that could have changed the entire complexion of the match.

So, United fans, who do you think was the biggest culprit in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham? Let us know by taking part below and giving each player a performance rating out of ten…
