Newcastle ended their 2017/18 season in style on Sunday, beating former champions Chelsea in a 3-0 demolition at St. James' Park.

Dwight Gayle opened the Magpies' account after just 23 minutes to put huge pressure on the Blues - who needed a win and Liverpool to lose against Brighton to steal a last-minute place in the top four - before Ayoze Perez went on the seal the victory with a second-half brace, latching onto firstly a Jonjo Shelvey shot-come-pass and then a ball from centre-back Florian Lejeune.

Mohamed Diame, who Transfermarkt value at just £4.5million, played a key role in central midfield too, as Newcastle's engine room cancelled out the numerical advantage of Chelsea's 3-5-2 setup in the middle of the park.
