Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has heralded Mousa Dembele as a ‘football genius’ after the Belgian’s Man of the Match performance against Arsenal.
Entering the match as a fitness doubt, having managed just 20 minutes in midweek against Bayer Leverkusen, Dembele was a stand-out performer in Spurs 1-1 draw that kept the Lilywhites in the hunt for Premier League glory.
The 29-year-old’s action this season has been limited due to injury but Dembele was back to his best this weekend, with Pochettino quoted by The Evening Standard as stating the midfielder was one of the best players on the pitch.
“Dembele is a genius. He could play 20 only minutes against [Bayer] Leverkusen but today he was one of the best. We showed a strong performance from the whole team. It was a very competitive game and it was a very good game to watch.”
Dembele is returning to form at the perfect time for Tottenham, who enter the latest international break four points behind leaders Liverpool and facing a difficult end to the month with games against West Ham, Monaco and Chelsea.
Harry Kane also returned from injury in yesterday’s draw, scoring the penalty to bring the scores level, but the loss of Dele Alli for a few weeks will hit Spurs hard.
