There are now just 17 days to go before the English transfer window slams shut. For the 20 clubs taking part in next season's Premier League, time is now of the essence. Today's top-tier transfer roundup focuses on Manchester United rejecting a bid for a star striker, an update on the future of an in-demand Manchester City winger and a Ligue 1 ace's preferred destination this summer.

Lukaku bid rejected

What does the future hold for Romelu Lukaku? The Belgium international appears to want to leave Old Trafford this summer – at least that's what his agent says – and as such, he has been of interest to Serie A's Inter Milan. However, the 26-year-old will not be happy with United's decision to turn down an offer from the Italian side. According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils received a bid of £53.9m for the striker, but that was not enough to please the club's hierarchy. Ed Woodward and co are looking for more than £79m for their number nine. Inter, at least, have made it clear they want to sign the former Chelsea man, with Antonio Conte admitting as much last week, so this is unlikely to be the last we hear of this story.

Bayern fail in new Sane approach

Bayern Munich's pursuit of Leroy Sané has been very public. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has even commented on the Bundesliga champions' pursuit of the 23-year-old Germany international. So far, though, the Citizens have held firm on their desire to keep one of their star assets. Now, it is being reported that Bayern recently made an offer of cash plus David Alaba for the former Schalke winger in an attempt to reduce the price. However, that was quickly turned down by the Premier League club, with all involved in the transfer process agreeing to decline.

Pepe wants Liverpool move

After such impressive performances for Lille in France last season, it should come as no surprise that Nicolas Pepe is one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe this summer. 23 goals and 12 assists tend to attract that kind of attention. The latest news is that Napoli have made an offer of €50m (£45m) plus Adam Ounas for the Ivory Coast international, according to Sunday's print edition of Italian outlet Libero (via Il Napolista). However, the 24-year-old does not want the move himself and reportedly prefers a switch to Liverpool instead. Not that the Reds would have it all their own way should they make a concrete move for the winger: Everton have also been linked as well.
