There is now less than a month left of the summer transfer window, which gives the 20 clubs that make up the Premier League little time to get themselves ready for the new campaign. Today’s Premier League transfer roundup is made up of top-tier interest in a Chelsea midfielder, Liverpool eyes on a La Liga ace and Everton’s pursuit of a Barcelona winger.
Chelsea’s main business this summer will be keeping hold of the players they already have, with them unable to sign new stars due to their two-window transfer ban. Tiemoue Bakayoko is one of the loanees from the last campaign who has now returned to Stamford Bridge, but it seems he could soon be off again. According to French outlet RMC Sport, both Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in signing the 24-year-old French enforcer. The Blues paid £40m in 2017 for the former AS Monaco man, but he didn’t impress during his first term in the Premier League. He spent the 2018/19 season on loan at AC Milan.
Liverpool have made just the one signing so far this summer, with Dutch youngster Sepp van den Berg joining the Anfield outfit from PEC Zwolle. According to Spanish publication El Desmarque, they want to make a second. They are reporting that the Reds are willing to pay €75m (£67.4m) for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio. Apparently, the 23-year-old Spaniard is wanted by manager Jurgen Klopp as a back-up option, especially for Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian picks up an injury. Los Merengues boss Zinedine Zidane would not want to let the former RCD Mallorca star leave too easily, however. He has reportedly told Florentino Perez that he would like Sadio Mane to come the other way in any deal for Asensio.
Marco Silva’s Everton have so far brought in two faces this transfer window: Andre Gomes and Jonas Lossl. A number of names have been mentioned to join them, including FC Barcelona’s Malcom. Spain’s Sport is reporting that the Toffees are willing to offer €35m (£31.5m) for the Brazilian in an attempt to take him to Goodison Park. However, it seems that the Blaugrana want to get €41m (£36.9m) out of the Merseyside outfit for the 22-year-old. Should Everton be successful in taking the former Bordeaux man to the Premier League, he would be the fourth player to be signed from Barca in recent times following the arrivals of Gomes, Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina.
