Premier League trio still keen on Aston Villa star

Aston Villa striker Christian BentekeLiverpool and Arsenal are ready to battle Tottenham for the signature of Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke in January, according to the Daily Star.

The Belgian was the subject of interest from a host of top clubs in the summer, before putting pen to paper on a new four year contract at Villa Park.

However the Premier League big boys are still confident they can lure the striker away.

Liverpool have lined up the forward as a replacement for Luis Suarez, should Real Madrid come in as expected with a mega money offer for the Uruguayan.

Meanwhile Arsenal are planning to launch a bid of their own for the powerful forward, as Arsene Wenger is desperate to bring in another striker to take the load off Olivier Giroud.

However, Wenger does have his concerns that Benteke would not fit into the Gunners style of play.

Tottenham were thought to be the favourites for his signature in the summer, and are planning a new offer of £28million in January.

Andre Villas-Boas remains in the market for a new forward, and is willing to part with Emmanuel Adebayor in order to fund the deal.

Benteke scored 23 goals during his debut season in England and has already netted five this campaign, despite missing several weeks with a hip injury.
