Sunday will stage two huge games in the Premier League as two derbies take centre stage.

Manchester United and Manchester City will go head to head at Old Trafford, while Liverpool are scheduled to take on Everton at Anfield.

The Manchester derby could be pivotal in the title race, but the clash between the two Merseyside clubs poses an intriguing plot line.

Everton have been struggling all season, despite spending more than £100m in the summer transfer window.

The club had hoped to push towards the top six, but instead they have been lingering towards relegation.

Since Sam Allardyce took over, though, life has looked a bit brighter for the Toffees as they managed to win his first game in charge - a 2-0 triumph over Huddersfield Town.

That result was fresh from a 4-0 hammering of West Ham United at Goodison Park.

Everton will take on a prolific Liverpool side, who have struck 15 goals in their last three games in all competitions.

The Reds' most recent fixture was Wednesday night's Champions League showdown against Spartak Moscow, which ended in a 7-0 thumping at Anfield.

Former Arsenal player Charlie Nicholas thinks that Everton's gameplan should prioritise defending in order to keep Liverpool's attacking stars at bay.

The Scotsman told Sky Sports:

"We were calling [Liverpool] the Red Arrows the other week - when one moves into a position another will take the space he's moved from. Interchanging, it used to be known as. They are fabulous at it.

"It is the pace at which they do it. To defend that, you have to park the bus really deep, sit on the edge of your box and play with protection - probably three central midfield players in front of your defence - and say 'you will have to go round the flanks'.

"[Liverpool] don't have any height and I think that is the one area you can pick them. I think that is what Manchester United did. Whether Everton are good enough? I have my doubts."
