Everton made a song and dance about the return of Wayne Rooney last summer and the idea was that the experienced Englishman could help bring a winning mentality to the dressing room.
That fact in itself belies the former Manchester United man’s waning influence on the pitch and while Rooney has scored enough this season, his performances week in and week out have not been up to scratch.
Combined with Sam Allardyce’s safety-first, meat and two veg football, Rooney looks the pedestrian player he has become and that’s why we asked Everton fans whether they should again say goodbye to the Scouser this summer.
It would appear that the goodwill that Rooney generated by returning has all but evaporated this term as 75 per cent of the Toffees fans we asked want the frontman out the door in the summer.
