Matching up has become a common tactical trend since 3-4-3 took the top end of the Premier League by storm at the start of last season – the logic being that you can at least cancel out the opposition if you set up in the same way.
It worked a treat for Manchester United last weekend as Jose Mourinho deployed a 3-5-2 for the first time in the Premier League this season against Tottenham’s 3-4-3. In a cagey affair at Old Trafford, it was the Red Devils who finally took a rare opportunity to seal the vital win through Antony Martial.
But United face arguably an even bigger test this weekend in the form of Chelsea. Spurs are a highly-talented side but the Blues are reigning champions for a reason and they’ll boast home advantage on Sunday.
With that in mind, it’s crucial Mourinho gets his tactical setup perfectly right, so we asked Red Devils supporters earlier this week whether the United boss should use the same 3-5-2 formation that worked against Tottenham when his side travel to west London.
And according to our poll, 79% of United fans think he should. Who would make your starting XI for tomorrow’s 4.30pm kickoff? Let us know by commenting below…
