Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday unfortunately won’t live too long in the memory – well, not for the right reasons anyway. While Pep Guardiola’s side were at something close to their predictably dominant best, the reigning champions failed to put up anything loosely resembling a genuine fight at the Etihad Stadium.
City finished up with 71% possession and finally broke the deadlock when David Silva supplied Bernardo Silva with a delicious cross along the six-yard box for the only goal of the afternoon. But it was another attacking player City fans were most impressed with on Sunday – prodigious winger Leroy Sane.
Indeed, we asked City fans after yesterday’s match to give individual performances ratings for each player involved and while David and Bernardo Silva both received an average score of 8.6, it was the German international who claimed the Man of the Match award with a 9/10 rating.
And the statistics justify that acknowledgement from City fans. Sane completed the most dribbles and had the most shots on goal of any City player, while one of his early efforts was cleared off the line by Cesar Azpilicueta.
