In two weekends' time we will have already reached the halfway point of the 2016/17 season, with Gameweek 18 somehow passing us by.

It's been a mesmerising campaign so far, with plenty of clubs involved in the title race, most of the bottom half deemed part of the relegation battle and just twelve points separating the drop zone from the top six.

And we've probably seen enough of the personnel at all 20 clubs to make some educated judgements on what kind of seasons they've had so far and where they'll go from here.

With that in mind, we asked our readers last week to vote for their signings of the season so far, from a selection of 17 from across the whole division to choose from.

FootballFanCast's gremlins have spent all morning counting the ballots and with voting now closed, we can exclusively reveal the top five signings of the season so far - as decided by the fans!

Joe Allen has proved a revelation since Stoke City picked him up for just £13million following a spate of impressive performances for Wales during the summer's European Championship. Effective in the engine room and at the tip of midfield, the 26-year-old pass-master has notched up four goals and two assists in the Premier League already for the Potters, whilst averaging three tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 1.1 created chances per match. He may have been deemed surplus to requirements at Liverpool, but the 'Welsh Xavi' is proving he's at the very least a top-eight player. Those don't come too cheap nowadays.

4. N'Golo Kante

Chelsea v Manchester United - Premier League

N'Golo Kante's energy and tenacity was a fundamental factor in Leicester City's shock Premier League title last season, further highlighted by their recent struggles, and the Frenchman appears to be having the same impact at Chelsea, with the Blues now three points clear at the table's summit. The industrious midfielder has forged a fantastic partnership with Nemanja Matic, complimenting the Serbian's stature with his nimble frame and box-to-box dynamism. He was by no means the cheapest signing during the summer but £32million is already looking a steal.

3. Joel Matip

The cheapest player on this list, Liverpool didn't pay FC Schalke a single penny to sign Joel Matip on a free transfer. The Cameroonian hasn't exactly uprooted trees on Merseyside - Liverpool have conceded the second-most goals of any side in the top ten this season - but he's still improved a department of the starting XI that fared even worse last term and performed well for a player amid his debut campaign in the Premier League. Aged just 25, Liverpool appear to have landed a fantastic long-term acquisition.

2. Shkodran Mustafi

Mustafi

Arsenal have been crying out for a top-quality centre-half to partner Laurent Koscienly and they appear to have found one in Germany international Shkodran Mustafi. Highly-rated from his days with Valencia and his national team, the 24-year-old is certainly living up to his billing, helping Arsenal record the third-best goals conceded tally in the Premier League after Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. He and Koscielny have already forged a strong understanding that will be the backbone of any title bid from the Gunners this season.

1. Sadio Mane

So there you have it, FootballFanCast readers have voted Liverpool's Sadio Mane the signing of the summer. That's certainly understandable; despite the debate initially surrounding his hefty price-tag, the former Southampton man has been more than up to the task - leading the Reds' scoring charts in the Premier League with seven strikes, alongside four assists. Frighteningly quick and working on an almost telepathic understanding with Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, the Senegal winger has played a huge role in Liverpool scoring the most goals of any Premier League side this term.
