While few Chelsea supporters will accredit much importance to the result of Sunday's Community Shield defeat to Manchester City, the performance certainly gave cause for concern. Maurizio Sarri has been appointed to try and reinvent the Blues as an attacking side who can challenge Pep Guardiola's team for the Premier League title, but the Wembley outing proved just how far away from that they currently are.

After the match, we asked Chelsea fans to issue player ratings for each of those involved in the underwhelming performance. Here's a rundown of the three players they feel let Chelsea down most against City, suffering the lowest average scores...

David Luiz - 4.5: It was a tough day back at the office for Luiz, making his first competitive appearance for Chelsea in an incredible 181 days after being exiled by Antonio Conte, in a performance that revived one of the most fundamental concerns regarding the Brazilian. He never looks as comfortable in a back four compared to a back three, and he inexplicably backed off Phil Foden for City's first goal as the youngster powered through midfield.

Cesc Fabregas - 4.4: The playmaking midfielder was worryingly ineffective by his usual standards and couldn't really get himself into the game against a much younger and more dynamic City engine room. Perhaps that's because of the quality of opposition but Fabregas and Jorginho simply look like a poor fit for each other, trying to do similar things in the middle of the park without either really creating the space the other needs to thrive. Chelsea's midfield could require a re-jig for their opening Premier League clash on Saturday.

Alvaro Morata - 3.5: A simply abysmal performance in which Morata had the least touches of any Chelsea player, just twenty, yet suffered the most dispossessions. That sums up a miserable Wembley outing for Chelsea's supposed star striker, who needs a drastic injection of confidence if he's going to start the new Premier League season with a bang. Service to him was far from perfect, but the Spaniard seemed to lack any sharpness, belief or passion. Could be a very long year for him at Stamford Bridge.
