Football FanCast guest columnist Dean Pryor feels that Hill-Wood has provided Tottenham with all the motivation they need.
Peter Hill-Wood is renowned for his stupid outbursts and claims that make little sense, but even the rest of the board members and Wenger must have cringed when he steadfastly claimed that Tottenham and Aston Villa represent no threat whatsoever to Arsenal, or a place in the Champions League. Perhaps he should take a look at the current League table and the strength that Tottenham have in depth before making such ill-timed remarks.
I say ill-timed because in many ways Hill-Wood has just given Harry Redknapp his team talk ahead of what is likely to be the most highly contested derby in years. As much as it pains me to say Tottenham have come on leaps and bounds in the past 12 months and we were very lucky not to get turned over at WHL and Redknapp has finally got them reaching something near their potential. They have a decent squad, understand the importance of strengthening, and you can guarantee that they will have no hesitation in spending big money in January to cement their CL push. Unlike Hill-Wood they have a chairman that is able to show ambition, oppose to one who is content to sit on big profits.
I find it incredibly frustrating and I think that Arsenal need to wake up to fact that both Tottenham and Manchester City have caught up with us and they clearly have the tools to cement a place in the top four, which will leave the likes of us and Liverpool in a vulnerable position. Who knows perhaps missing out on the CL spots maybe the shot in the arm that this football club needs to realise, like many supporters currently do this experiment with youth is doomed to failure.
