According to reports in The Times, Manchester City are looking to revive their bid for Leicester winger, Riyad Mahrez.

What's the Story?

The Algerian ace, who was the PFA Player's Player of the year 2015/6, has long been touted with a move away from the King Power stadium and has also been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

In January City reportedly put together a £60million bid for the mercurial winger  after missing out on Alexis Sanchez only for the deal to dramatically collapse as Leicester held out for an even higher transfer fee.

Will Leicester sell Mahrez?

During the January window Mahrez formally submitted a written transfer request for the second time in an attempt to force through the move to City. Leicester were unmoved at the time, resolutely determined to hold on to their most creative player. Even so, such a stance can not go on forever. As we saw with the Coutinho saga, no matter how talented the individual is, keeping them in a team they are no longer motivated to be in is detrimental to the entire group.

Just as Liverpool held out for an appropriately substantial bid for their play-maker so too will Leicester be in no rush to offload Mahrez who signed a contract extension last season until 2020. Leicester's asking price is understood to be in the region of £95m.

How would Mahrez fit in at City?

City are looking to improve on an already impressive squad that ran away with the Premier League title this year. Under Guardiola, they have set a marker down for their rivals and it is imperative that they continue developing and improving while they are still on top.

One sure fire way to do that is to add quality and depth in to the team. In Mahrez, City would be getting a player who can turn a game on its head single handed. His critics will say that he hasn't done that enough of late, but to be fair to the tricky winger he has been playing in a sterile Leicester team with little motivation.

Under Guardiola and within a fluid system Mahrez could quickly regain the form that saw him lead Leicester's charge for the Premier League. Operating as an inside forward on the right flank Mahrez would provide good competition for both Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva.

Mahrez might come with a heavy transfer fee but he is one of the few players that could genuinely improve this Man City team.
