Rodgers believes Sturridge could save job, Pellegrini on Champions League glory

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes star striker Daniel Sturridge can make the difference and help his side compete at the top of the Premier League.

Rodgers, who has recently been under fire for his side’s poor performances, welcomed Sturridge back into the team in the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.

The former Chelsea striker scored in the victory, relieving some of the demand on his head coach.

The pressure has certainly been on the Anfield boss in the last month, with the likes of Jürgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti being linked with his job.

Elsewhere, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes his side will one day win the Champions League, although expressed that this may not be anytime soon.

City, who conquered Champions League new-comers Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday night, face an uphill task to secure their place in the next round as Juventus and Sevilla currently hold the two qualifying spots.
