Sam blasts pathetic Blackburn

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce branded his side’s second-half display at Chelsea as pathetic after Rovers had slumped to a 5-0 defeat.

It was the second time in a matter of weeks that Rovers had capitulated to one of the division’s top teams following their 6-2 humbling at Arsenal.

An angry Allardyce blasted:“The second half was pathetic. I didn’t see that coming. I felt that we set our stall out to frustrate Chelsea as best we could and we worked that very well in the first half.

“My team talk at half-time was obviously to continue that way, we’d only lost a goal to an own goal which was pretty unlucky from our point of view but I was telling the lads about producing in Chelsea’s box when they had the opportunity.

“But we went pathetically wrong, all the tactics that we’d set out went out of the window when the second goal went in.

“We then felt that we had to go and try and open up and attack even more and, when you’re playing against a side of this quality, they’re just going to score more goals so I’m bitterly disappointed in the players’ lack of understanding of the situation that they had got themselves in.

“Instead of making themselves more difficult to beat they made themselves easier to beat after the second goal and that’s why we got beat 5-0.”
