BBC pundit Alan Shearer has predicted that Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea will clinch Champions League spots this season, with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United subsequently missing out.
The start of the season has been thrilling, with the most competitive title race in years also branching out to six teams fighting for four Champions League spots, and Shearer told Match Of The Day’s Facebook page that it won’t end well for Spurs and United.
“If you look at the league now then it is starting to take shape, and I don’t see that top five changing much. In fact, I think the four that are there at the minute – Liverpool, Chelsea, City and Arsenal – I don’t think they’ll move too much at all.”
Tottenham are the only remaining side unbeaten in the Premier League but have had issues scoring from open play and turning draws into wins, whilst Manchester United have been the Jekyll & Hyde side this season as they toss between fine performances and disappointing results.
Spurs’ season could easily be defined by the next few weeks following the international break, as they’ll look to end a run of four consecutive draws in difficult clashes against West Ham, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho’s United, meanwhile, could slip to six-points off Arsenal if they lose to the Gunners at Old Trafford next week.
