Chris Wilder bolstered Sheffield United’s attacking contingent in the January transfer window with the loan signing of forward Gary Madine from Premier League outfit Cardiff City. The 28-year-old opened his account for the Blades last time out, with a well-taken brace against Reading at Bramall Lane.
Sky Sports pundit Sue Smith, as quoted by The Star, has praised the capture of Madine, saying “I was thinking are they lacking a striker, an out and out striker? I know they have brought Madine in who could be the man for them…have they got somebody who is going to score a lot of goals that is going to get them promoted? Maybe they have that now.”
Who do you want to see promoted this year? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have picked their 3 favoured teams in the video below…
Whilst Smith’s praise of the Madine signing is perfectly valid, her comments have baffled many Blades fans, as she seems to have forgotten all about the club’s talisman, captain and top goalscorer Billy Sharp.
The 33-year-old striker has been in scintillating form so far this season. His return of 22 league goals from 30 Championship outings is a huge part of why Wilder’s side are in the title fight at all.
Not only has Sharp been prolific this term, but 31-year-old David McGoldrick has also been amongst the goals. His contribution of 11 Championship strikes takes the pair’s tally to 33 goals between them.
With that in mind, Smith’s comments about Sheffield United’s lack of goalscorers are hard to fathom. Plenty of confused Blades fans have since taken to Twitter to point this out…
Clearly has no idea about us at all. Poor journalism, don’t they do any research beforehand?

Most league goals this century. 22 goals this season best goals to minutes ratio in the championship. Tell me again what’s the criteria for a goalscorer
