Sheffield United fans have taken to Twitter to complain after they discovered that Gareth Southgate had decided to start Nick Pope in England’s match against Kosovo instead of Dean Henderson.
The glovesman – on loan at Sheffield United from Manchester United – has been in impressive form so far in what is his debut campaign in the Premier League.
Henderson has conceded just nine goals in 12 Premier League starts this season, while keeping an eye-catching five clean sheets along the way as Chris Wilder’s men sit very comfortably in fifth, just eight points behind Manchester City.
In Pope’s case, the Burnley keeper has conceded 18 goals – double the amount of Henderson’s concessions – while keeping one less clean sheet than the 22-year-old with four shutouts to his name.
So, on the basis of those stats, you can definitely argue that Henderson has been unlucky to miss out.
Let’s take a look at what the Blades supporters on Twitter were saying about the decision…
So joint top clean sheets in the prem doednt warrant a start but the Burnley keeper who has flooded goals in recent games does? Okay
