Sheffield United announced the signing of striker Conor Washington on Twitter during the deadline day for loan deals and free agents, but Blades fans were split in their opinions on his arrival.
Washington joined the South Yorkshire club on a free transfer, signing a one-year deal following his release by former club Queens Park Rangers.
Many fans were disappointed that boss Chris Wilder had brought in Washington on the cheap though rather than a bigger name striker. The 26-year-old netted just 14 times in 98 appearances for QPR following his move from Peterborough in January 2016.

However, a whole host of Blades fans were buzzing with the signing, believing that Wilder could rekindle Washington’s form much like he has done with fellow former QPR striker Leon Clarke. Washington was far more prolific at Posh, with his return of 32 goals from 94 appearances earning the Northern Irishman his move to the Championship in the first place.

Interesting to see that both Conor Washington & Marvin Johnson started out in non-league football. Both are on a journey.
Aye, they've both of them stalled over recent months — both seem to need a shot of confidence to draw out what made them prized previously.

Delighted with Washington signing. Carbon copy of Billy with smart runs always on defender’s shoulder, poaching goals, and quality finishes from range too. Always runs his socks off, but unfortunately never got his chance at QPR so fans didn’t take to him #twitterblades #sufc

If any of our fans aren’t a little bit disappointed then they are lying, it’s not that Washington coming is bad because it may end up been quality but we expected better afrer the links we’ve had #sufc #twitterblades

Weve chased Hogan and Waghorn all summer and the club has said we wont bring ‘just anyone’ in that’s not the real top quality…

Happy with Washington. Good singing and a proper wilder sort of signing… something to prove. #sufc

Don’t get it me, We were after Waghorn, Marriott and Hogan a few weeks ago so to end up with Washington is a bit of a shock to the system

Thoughts on Connor Washington – Pacey (something we lack), Determined (something that will help him settle into Wilders style) and has a point to prove, sounds like all the key ingredients for Wilder to get more goals out of him #sufc #TwitterBlades

Seriously i’m all for trusting in the gaffer but Washington is garbage. Hopefully he finds his feet and gets going for us, but can’t say i’m confident #sufc
