Bolton Wanderers defender Danny Shittu has turned down the chance to join Sheffield United on loan.
The Nigeria international has dropped out of Gary Megson’s first-team plans this season since the summer signing of Zat Knight from Aston Villa.
The 29-year-old is believed to be hoping to seal a switch to another Premier League club in the January transfer window.
Meanwhile, Joey O’Brien has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury and could be sidelined for several more months.
The 23-year-old has already been out of action for almost 12 months since injuring a knee in last year’s game against Blackburn Rovers.
O’Brien returned to light training earlier this season, but has broken down with more problems in his left knee.
He has undergone further surgery on the problem and is currently recovering after the operation.
