Sign him – Liverpool hero urges club to snap up Arsenal target

Liverpool are firmly in the hunt for Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi, with reports from talkSPORT claiming that Xabi Alonso has urged them to snap up the midfield maestro.

The Spaniard has only been with Los Blancos for just over 18 months, but he’s struggled to hold down a first-team berth.

Alonso – whom Illarramendi has been compared to – played alongside the 24-year-old last term, and was impressed by his performances and potential.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the playmaker in recent times, but now it’s claimed that Liverpool are firmly in the hunt thanks to the glowing recommendation received from their former hero.

Alonso is understood to have talked up the pass-master, who, like the now Bayern Munich ace, came through the ranks at Real Sociedad.

Illarramendi himself is thought to be eyeing a move away from Real, with reports claiming that bids of around £18m may be enough to lure him from the Bernabeu this summer.
