James Ward-Prowse and Nathan Redmond received the news that they would have been dreaming of since they were little kids on Thursday.
That’s because when England manager Gareth Southgate named his Three Lions squad for the friendly against Germany and the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, the Southampton duo were in it.

After making a number of impressive appearances for the Under-21s – with Ward-Prowse also captaining the team – and Saints this season, many will feel that the time has come for the pair to have the opportunity to impress for the senior side.
Injuries to key men have certainly helped them – the likes of captain Wayne Rooney, Jordan Henderson and Harry Kane are all absent – but supporters of the south coast were of course delighted with the news that another one of their academy graduates had made the grade.
Here are just a selection of the Twitter reactions from Saints fans to the news…

Redmond has been one of my favourite players this season, and JWP has established himself and really pushed on. Deserved call ups! #SaintsFC

However, some were a little less certain than others that Redmond in particular was ready for the call…
I honestly think Redmond should be nowhere near the England team and I'm a #saintsfc fan. Still needs a lot of development
