Southampton v Man United – Confirmed starting XIs

Manchester United will be hoping to take advantage of Manchester City’s defeat to West Ham yesterday by closing the gap at the top to just two points today.

Louis van Gaal’s men can rise to second in the Premier League with three points over Southampton this afternoon, and to within just two points of arch rivals and league leaders City.

After their shock 2-1 defeat to PSV in the Champions League earlier this week, the Red Devils will be in search of a positive reaction and build on their pretty good start to their league campaign.

Meanwhile Southampton have managed to win just one of their opening five Premier League games this season, but three points against United today will seem them jump straight back in to the top ten.

Wayne Rooney returns to the match day squad for United after missing out the defeat in Holland in mid-week, while van Gaal could also hand Anthony Martial his first Premier League start after the Frenchman’s goal scoring debut off the bench against Liverpool last weekend.

So here are the confirmed teams for this afternoon…
