As reported by The Daily Mail, Southampton are interested in signing RB Salzburg prospect Amadou Haidara in the summer transfer window.
Southampton are on the hunt for talents that can help them improve on last season’s difficult campaign in the English Premier League. Saints need to strengthen in a variety of areas, with Mark Hughes looking for more competition and depth throughout the team.
One player on their radar is 20-year-old Amadou Haidara.
That’s according to The Daily Mail, who report he is now a target for Southampton after they missed out on the signing of James Maddison, who decided to make the switch to Leicester City.
Would he be a good signing for Southampton this summer?
Yet to make an impact in one of Europe’s top five leagues, Haidara is nonetheless attracting attention off the back of his impressive 2017/18 season for Austrian side RB Salzburg.
Making 55 appearances in all competitions, the midfielder scored eight goals and assists 10 more, demonstrating he has the kind of goal threat and creativity that Southampton are crying out for from the middle of the park.
The Mali international can play through the middle or on the right flank and played every match of Salzburg’s impressive run to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League, scoring at that stage against Marseille, who ultimately put them out after extra time.
He’s clearly a talent and one that should interest Southampton, ahead of bigger teams throwing their hat in the ring and out-muscling Saints in cash terms. All signs point to him having the kind of potential that could make him a hit in the Premier League.
