Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed in his pre-Liverpool press conference that Stuart Armstrong will miss the next two to three weeks with a hip injury.

The 19-cap Scotland international has been a key player for the Saints in recent weeks, scoring a long-range screamer against Crystal Palace last week to double the lead and hand Southampton a 2-0 win and three more points - Hasenhuttl's side have won five and drawn one of their last seven Premier League outings.

However, after limping off in the 43rd minute of the FA Cup tie against Tottenham, the former Celtic man looks set to miss the next two to three weeks with a hip problem.

It comes as a huge blow to the south coast side, who were already set to be up against it at Anfield against Jurgen Klopp's side, who are 19 points clear at the top of the Premier League - without Armstrong, their task has just become tougher.

Let's see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to the news...

To kick off the reaction, these two fans weren't very happy with the news.

James McFadden said that Armstrong's injury comes as a "huge blow" before saying that the 27-year-old has been "a key factor in our recent" run of form.

Also, 'Saint Anon' said that they were "gutted" before adding that they think Armstrong is "one of, if not the, most influential players in the team".

Elsewhere, Ben Stanfield said it was a "big loss" before calling the Scot a "key cog" in the Saints' good run of form over the last two months or so.

Nathan added that it's "such a shame" - this fan also said that Armstrong will be "a huge miss" for the games against Liverpool and Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Jamie said that he "genuinely think this ruins" Southampton's chances of winning against the European champions, before calling the No.17 "our most important attacking player" - Jamie also said that nobody else in the squad who would replace him "has the same defensive capabilities".

Lastly, 'Saint Harris' said that Armstrong is "probably the most important player in our squad" alongside Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse.

It truly will be a big blow for Hasenhuttl given how well the midfielder has been playing recently.
